Do my employees need this course?

If the conclusion of your first aid risk assessment determines that you need more than emergency first aid training for your staff, they will require the full FAW qualification. You may only need your initial responders to have completed the EFAW course in less hazardous business environments.

How long does a first aid at work certificate last for?

A first aid at work certificate is valid for three years. This means that the person can act as a workplace first aider for those three years. When a certificate expires, a worker may no longer fill the role of an emergency services responder and an employer cannot provide the required first-aid measures based on their risk assessment.

Although a certificate is valid for three years, first-aid skills have been shown to deteriorate after six months. The HSE strongly urges that first responders refresh their first-aid abilities on a yearly basis.

What is the difference between first aid at work and emergency first aid at work course?

The first aid at work training is designed for companies with a higher degree of risk or larger organisations who operate with a lower degree of risk, as determined by their risk assessment.

The first aid at work course also goes over more first-aid procedures than the emergency first aid at work, and if an employer's risk assessments indicate that staff are at particular risk for example fractures, burns, or anaphylactic shock, they should educate their first responders on this first aid at work curriculum.

Can you fail a first aid at work course?

Before you can perform the function of a workplace first aider, you must show that you have both the understanding and ability to deal with a variety of first aid situations. If you cannot show that you have adequate understanding and competence to deal with a range of first aid situations on a first aid at work course, you will not be allowed to finish the course and receive a certificate. Although, we have industry leading pass-rates for the delivery of our training, and we're so confident of this to guarantee that if you don't pass, we will refund your course costs.
